Casting Crowns is one of my favorite bands because their music is just stock full of content and powerful messages. Casting Crown’s new song “Slow Fade” talks about how mistakes, regrets, wrongs, sins don’t occur all at once or in a single day. It is gradual. It is based on small decisions we make day to day. We find ourselves often having done something or at some place we didn’t expect to be, not because we woke up one morning choosing to do something, but rather little by little our daily choices and decisions led us there.

One theme you find in this message is not to underestimate one’s capacity to do wrong, or to sin. Casting Crown is a Christian band thus holds the Christian theology that people are inclined to sin, or in other words innately desires to serve oneself above all else. But whether you believe this to be true or not, I think it’s very true to life and it would only serve us better to live our lives carefully with the assumption that we too are capable of doing things we would later regret, that which causes harm to others and ourselves. I am sure for many, it doesn’t take us too long to think of a couple things we have done which we regret and some things we never thought we would do but we did. I believe this is why this video really strikes a chord in all its viewers.

I’m a christian and i’m going through some rough times when it comes to live for God and making bad choices. I’ve been fighting with sin and I eventually make bad choices that hurt my family and I. Then last night I heard this song and it brought tears to my eyes cuz everything that singer is singing about when it comes to making bad choices and then I slowly start fading away from God and it tears me up. While I was listening to it, I just started praying to God and begged him to help me cuz I didn’t know what to do. I was so hurt. I feel like made God upset with me and he’s tired of my screw ups. This song is so true and it has alot to do with the choices we all make and what the outcome of that choice will bring us. I truly need him more than ever now in my life. Be with me Father, I need you.

I love this song, it moved me to tears. The truth rings clear and I must say that I have been fading in my life. I can’t say this song turned me around but christian songs like this one are the only reason I haven’t killed myself. I love the official video but there is one on Tangle.com that says at the beggining “The gratest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn’t exist.” I say to everyone beware of the devil. He is the reason we are all fading.

So true! As a graduate student in Clinical Psychology, the progression that this song warns against is very real, and something that we as Christians are so often blind too. But an underlying theme in the song is the fact that we were created with a certain design, and the things we do and the choices we make throughout our day can be either in line with or not in line with that design. As we make choices not in line with that design, our appetites and souls are affected. Modern psychology calls this “conditioning”. The good news is, the opposite is also true. WE can make choices in line with that design, and NOT fade, but instead THRIVE. Swanwater, you do not need to fade, you do not need to kill yourself. There is a God in heaven who loves you and has a purpose for you, and who delights over you.

This is truly an excellent song and it aligns with the wisdom offered by God in scripture. The path of destruction is a wide and gentle slope that is traveled by many while the path to salvation is narrow. We played this video as part of a men’s group bible study and prayer session today within our church. It was presented as part of a larger topic on sexual addiction and pornography that is a huge problem around the world today. This problem also approaches as a slow fade. You see a picture, glance at a web site, start to “dabble” in an occasional video or a few more pictures. Then that casual activity picks up. You find yourself need a “fix”. As as you slowly fade into pornography, you are becoming emotionally attached to a lie. It’s not real. It makes you distant in real relationships that take work and love and commitment. You are soon addicted to this sin that can be easily accessed from anywhere. You rationalize that it is not hurting anybody. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. It puts a wedge between you and the holy spirit. Soon your conviction has faded. You don’t even see it as wrong. This puts a gulf between you and God and it prevents you from seeing the true God clearly. Others that see you will also notice that something is not quite right. You lack confidence and trust. You are lacking because in your heart you know that something is wrong and as you keep this transaction going, you may have a moment of conviction but even that is twisted since you imagine that God must be disgusted with you for what you have done. Nothing is too bad to keep us away from our Lord and savior. Confess your sin. Admit you need the strength of Jesus to flow into your life and to draw you away from this sin. We are not slaves to sin. We are set free by the sacrifice provided by our Father in Heaven when Jesus took the sin of the world and died on the cross. Those that are born twice only die once. The second birth is the acknowledgement of sin and brokenness in your life and the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your savior. Take away any slow fade into death and destruction by humbly admitting your sin and asking for Jesus to be a part of your life. Walk in the light and take comfort in the Lord’s saving grace.

I was just about to go and do something terrible,my life was excatly as the video presents when God promted me to read the words of this song, as i read it I knew if I walked out of the door, My life will be a disaster.

I feel so encouraged to hear everyone sharing about how just hearing or reading this song has helped them in some way.

It really is a strong reminder that the worst thing one could do is to start to compromise in the little things because it really does lead to a slippery slope. It is our pride that prevents us from thinking that such small compromises would affect us and before we know it we are at a place we never thought we’d be.

I am also reminded of all the scandals even just in the last few months both in business and in politics…

My husband walked out on me this year after 43 years of marriage. Without a word to me, he walked out and moved in with another woman that he’d only known 4 months.
This song helped me realize what had happened. It still hurt like crazy, but it made me see that the “little” things that come into our lives and can change our whole lives.

This song speaks the truth, and strikes a lot of us… it made us to think first before we act to avoid sinning. i heard this song from the movie “Fire Proof”. I suggest you watch this movie. It’s a about family relationship. The other songs on it’s sound track were also striking. If Casting Crowns music touched you, surely the movie will also knock on you.

this song has made me wonder about my actions. ive always believed in God even when i was little. and Its as if God was telling me with this song, “this could happen, and then this also could happen and this will be the result of your actions”.
and its true. you just dont “fade away” in a day. it gradually becomes worse. I thank God for letting me hear this song to really open my eyes.

I know the message is true. I was raised in church and was never a “bad” guy, but allowed satan in the “little” things. Within a year I was blinded and living a lie and in sin. By the grace of God He picked me up opened my eyes and restored my family and my walk with my Lord. Thank God for the truth and music that shares that truth.
