Viral Videos: Beatbox Battle World Championships – Julia & Daichi

Time for another round of Viral Videos. Keeping tabs on what is the new “it” video everyone has seen.

Beatbox Battle World Championships Wild Card Entries

Who’s the greatest beatboxer in the world? Each year there is an annual competition called the Beatbox Battle World Championships. This year it is held in Berlin, Germany on May 28th. Beatbox Contestants all over the world come together to lay down some human generated beats.

Several videos of wild card candidates have been going viral across the web. The wild card winner was Julia Dales, a 17 year old from Canada. Her video entry is shown below. HOWEVER, my vote goes for a guy who didn’t even crack the top 5 but has gained considerable support from the youtube and internet community. His name is Daichi a 18 year old from Japan. Check out his beats below. Just ridiculous.

World Championship Beat boxing Wild Card Results
1st Place: Julia Dales
2nd Place: Primitiv
3rd Place: D-9
4th Place: Lytos
5th Place: The Beatbox Hitman

Daichi – 17 year old Japanese on TV Show – Amazing Beatboxing Skills

Daichi gets my vote for the best wild card entry. As someone who grew up on hip hop and have a personal interest in beat boxing, I found his beat boxing crisp, clear and versatile. Also he ends with what seems to be a signature sound. It was cleaner than Julia and you have to love his sounds and scratches.

A second video of Daichi beat boxing at some Japanese show. Don’t be startled by the hosts with blue hair.

Julia Dales – Wild Card Beatbox World Championship Winner

Julia also has pretty good beat boxing skills but I really hope she has a lot hidden in her pocket because she ends up repeating the same thing and if you don’t have versatility you won’t be able to compete with the big boys.

Primitive – Wild Card Beatbox World Championship 2nd Place

Primitive got 2nd Place due to his vast versatility. He is able to generate tons of different sounds and seems to be quite the entertainer which serves well in these contests. I found that his later sounds are a bit messy and just seemed not quite “beat boxing” but no question he has versatility.

    1. yikes. i actually liked that one better. wonder why they would want to take it down when clearly it is giving the show good free press.

thanks for the note. took it off the page.

  1. DANG THAT WAS THE MOST COOLEST THING I EVER SAW. THAT 17-YEAR-OLD WAS AWESOME. THAT WAS EPIC… HE IS MY BEATBOXING HERO.

THAT WAS SO SICK I HAD TO WATCH IT TWICE. IT WAS THE BEST TING I EVER SAW IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!! REALLY.

  2. Daichi’s not bad, but he’s not good. His beats are not original, he’s just got a lot of hype. I don’t think Julia Dales should have won 1st, as there are better beatboxers who didn’t even place. My personal pick is D9 from Norway, who got 3rd place. As a beatboxer, I would say that his beats are smooth, technical, and very fresh.

  3. Hi my name is michael, from the philippines.Ive been watching this video of daichi since I started beatboxing. For me,his beats is very good, nice and especialy COOL.

  4. Oh man. Julia’s not bad but Daichi is way better. I didn’t know Julia won. I didn’t even know that Daichi doesn’t have a place. I thought he was the champion or something. I thought the first placer was Daichi then Julia. Daichi’s video made me believe that he won because it is really awesome. My expectations were too high[hehe]. I just love his beats. It’s soooooo COOOOL! :]

  5. Look Julia’s great and all, but I hate how she panders to the masses with all those pop hits. Daichi does some too I guess, but I think his beats are more tidy and he can actually maintain them. Also Daichi has some other videos that showcase his talent–he is ridiculous!
