Creativity: Nokia N96 – Bruce Lee Ping Pong Nun Chuck Commercial

Nokia’s Recent Bruce Lee Ping Pong Viral Commercial has been making the internet rounds. I would have to assume this is a TV Commercial being shown in China? It’s one of the top viral videos online and it is not surprising. Take a look as “Bruce Lee” as he plays Ping Pong with a pair of nun chucks. Throughout the video you have no clue what the commercial is for, but it ends with a note referring to the phone. How effective is it? I am not certain at this point, but cleaver enough to draw enough eyeballs and have it shared throughout the net.

Two videos are posted. See Below!

Teen Kills Self on Justin.tv with 185 Witnesses

A teen from Florida, committed suicide on Wednesday while broadcasting himself live on a video site called Justin.tv. Justin.tv is an open network of thousands of live streaming channels. 185 people were viewing the feed. From reports, he was egged on by fellow forum users on a bodybuilding website. Biggs ended up overdosing on pills live. He seemed to be breathing and alive for hours but soon some watchers became worried and contacted the police. The police broke into the complex and took him to the hospital.

Much of the videos of the actual event, pictures, suicide note and forum posts have been taken down, though much of it remains all over the web. For the sake of privacy and respect none of the content or the links will be posted on this blog. We will also withhold from using the teen’s name.

Black Hole Short Film – Underestimating the Subtle Power of Desire

As always, Clean Cut Media is always looking to bring the latest news, reviews and insightful articles in media influence on our culture. Clean Cut Media will also periodically post excellent pieces of advertising, well made videos and overall creative pieces of work. Considering so much of advertising these days resort to cheap emotional grabs, vulgar non-relevant references to sex, as well as send subtle messages that is detrimental to the way we view the world, the only true requirement to show on this site is that it is Clean Cut, thus the name! However we may post non-clean pieces of art for review and discussion. If you find any pieces of work worthy to share or review please comment! We’ll contact you directly and if you wish you can contribute your insight for the entry.

Below is an excellent short film. Short films require immense creativity and planning because an entire story must be condensed into 3-5 minutes. This piece is well done. Quick Commentary follows.

Creativity: Toshiba Timesculpture Advertisement Video

This advertisement was shot using 300 Gigashot Cameras, the highest number of moving image cameras ever used to film a sequence. Utilizing full looping action in 360 degrees view, this involved 20 Terabyte (that is 20,000 GB) of data which took 4 weeks of 24 hours a day video processing time. New editing software was built just to carry this out. The Cost? Word is going around that it costs nearly $4.7 million dollars. The music is originally by Crystal Castles called “Air War” but remixed by Advert Shock Remixes (NKNB).

Creativity: Apple vs Microsoft. Mac vs PC Marketing

By now most of the public has seen at least one of the many creative Mac vs PC commercials. If you are like me I find them hilarious and very memorable. Already thousands of spoofs have been generated using a similar type of message delivery. The Mac vs PC campaign is so unique and memorable it will most likely go down in history as one of the best.

Microsoft however was not amused. After Vista failed to meet expectations and criticized across the board, Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft blamed the commercials for the poor view of Vista. Microsoft than launched a $300 million dollar ad campaign to fight back.

I find this “battle” quite amusing because the type of ads that are produced are only further affirming the image the public has of each company. Microsoft as the out of touch, big bad company that throws money to get what it wants. Apple as the hip young company who are well in tune with what consumers want and one of the best at marketing it’s products. I’ve summarized their campaigns embedded the relevant videos below. Definitely check out the Apple ones.

Children See, Children Do. Media & Parents

Below is a video depicting the influence of parents and adults on their children. It is always amazing how much children are fully aware of what goes on around them and pick up on subtle cues and actions.

Though this video does not necessarily talk about media’s impact on children or our culture, it does highlight (though the form of media) that rather than simply blaming media for everything that has gone wrong, we as a whole need to take personal ownership over how our actions and behavior impact those around us especially the children.

Casting Crown – Slow Fade: Mistakes, Regrets

Casting Crowns - The Alter and the Door Album

Casting Crown – The Altar and the Door

Casting Crowns is one of my favorite bands because their music is just stock full of content and powerful messages. Casting Crown’s new song “Slow Fade” talks about how mistakes, regrets, wrongs, sins don’t occur all at once or in a single day. It is gradual. It is based on small decisions we make day to day. We find ourselves often having done something or at some place we didn’t expect to be, not because we woke up one morning choosing to do something, but rather little by little our daily choices and decisions led us there.

Top 11 Commercials & TV Spots of 2008 Beijing Olympics

This is a updated post as promised!
We will do one better than most and do a top 11! In no such order whatsoever!

As a huge fan of art, design, and film, I decided that along with the articles, news, reviews of media I periodically post what I consider to be beautiful works of art. I will also post what I consider to be good clean, well done commercials or spots.

With the Olympics well underway there has been quite a few spots that were done beautifully and with class. With so much garbage that is thrown up in marketing and advertising I wanted to post a few videos that I personally appealed to me either artistically or simply because I found them well made. The commercials during the Olympics are often more wholesome with better messages than the type of commercials you would see during the superbowl.

Which one is your favorite? Got other ones you like not mentioned here? Please comment!

Sea Orchestra by United Airlines
• Beautiful. The mix of 3d and 2d elements make this video one to watch! The first time I saw this spot I was awed by its beauty.
