<p>Google confirmed that YouTube is now averaging 4 BILLION views per day. They also confirmed that 60 hours of video is uploaded into the site, every MINUTE.</p>
<p>Back in 2010 we were awed that <strong><a title="YouTube Statistics Billions of Views" href="http://www.cleancutmedia.com/video/youtube-statistics-2-billion-views-per-day-infographic" target="_blank">YouTube hit 2 billion views per day</a>,</strong> bringing up many discussions about whether <strong><a title="YouTube Statistics - Help or Hurt?" href="http://www.cleancutmedia.com/video/youtube-statistics-the-ultimate-time-suck" target="_blank">YouTube was helping or hurting our culture</a></strong> as a whole.</p>
<p>Then Back in May 2011, a mere 8 months ago, <strong><a title="Youtube Birthday Statistics" href="http://www.cleancutmedia.com/video/youtube-statistics-growing-like-a-man-child-infographic" target="_blank">YouTube celebrate it&#8217;s 6th birthday</a></strong> by citing YouTube is averaging 3 billion views per day and 48 hours of video uploaded per minute. Incredible. At the time, YouTube cited this is equivalent of every US Resident watching at least 9 videos per day. That is EVERY US RESIDENT. That means if some guy without internet is not watching a video, someone is watching 18 times. But now at 4 Billion Views, YouTube has seen a 50% increase in views in about less than a year. At this rate, they would probably hit 5 billion within 6 months.</p>
<p><strong>Is there a ceiling to this? </strong></p>
<p><strong>How many videos can one person possibly watch in a day?</strong></p>
<p>That is an insane about of videos. We really need a resurgent of hobbies or find some meaningful work! Anyone have any good stories of replacing mundane video watching with something productive?</p>

I highly recommend this product for anyone working on a budget or desire Hollywood quality results for their short films and videos. It&#8217;s convenient, easy to use, and really makes things look awesome with very little effort. Magic Bullet Suite helps with color grading, color treatment, removing noise, and adding tons of simple effects such as adding specific glows, lighting, flares, vignettes, shadows and so on.</p>

It isn&#8217;t as well-done as the previous video, but clever none the less and a creative idea worth sharing.</p>

Media is part of life folks, just a matter of knowing what to consume, not to consume, and of course how much we should be consuming. Below are a few recent commercials with some buzz that are clean cut and well made.</p>

<p>Volkswagen did something most companies would not have thought of. Reveal their Super Bowl commercial before the Super Bowl! One may think, why? It takes away from the hype! Oh, but I see this as a good move on their part. In about 2 days, it already has 6 million views as it gets passed along virally, hogging all the attention, riding on the hype of all the anticipation. Good move Volkswagen. Also kudos on the nice, simple, clean cut commercial. The Video shows little Darth Vadar in his attempts to use the force. Watch it!</p>
<p>Of course the commercial says nothing about the car at all. Just trying to associate warm fuzzy feeling with the car and brand. That is the <a title="State of Advertising" href="http://www.cleancutmedia.com/advertising/selling-products-or-selling-lifestyle" target="_blank">state of advertising</a> folks!</p>

<h3>iPhone Verizon vs AT&amp;T Commercials</h3>
<p>A clear shot at it&#8217;s &#8220;rival&#8221; AT&amp;T. You have to love the simplicity of this ad, yet it indirectly emphasizes their differentiator &#8211; their reputation as the best network. It builds their reputation and continues to link the idea that Verizon&#8217;s service is clearly better than AT&amp;Ts. It doesn&#8217;t directly attack anyone, but pokes a bit of fun, bringing out that &#8220;ooooHH&#8221; feeling we get when someone has a good witty, comeback. Or maybe it&#8217;s just me.</p>
<p>Meanwhile Apple laughs at all the excellent publicity they are getting as the two networks dual it out. Apple is the ultimate winner.</p>

<p>Here at Clean Cut Media, instead of just bemoaning and deriding degrading media, we also like to promote and share a good CLEAN ad, commercial, movie or video when we see one. Bad media is often just driven by the fact that things like violence and sex simply sells, so it&#8217;s important we support what is good and clean. Other times, we just share because we like it! These Improv Everywhere videos? It&#8217;s clean and we just like it!</p>
<h3>Who is Improve Everywhere?</h3>
<p>Improve Everywhere is a group that organize giant scene stealing events in public areas. Their &#8220;missions&#8221; are hilariously fun. They unfortunately aren&#8217;t always squeaky clean, but the ones they are best known for all are really fun to watch.</p>
<p>Below is their most recent mission &#8220;Princess Leia &amp; Darth Vadar Star Wars Subway Scene&#8221; as well as 4 other great mission worth watching. Don&#8217;t miss out on &#8220;Frozen Grand Central&#8221; and &#8220;Food Court Musical&#8221; both are classics.</p>

<h3>Princess Leia &amp; Darth Vader Star Wars Subway Scene</h3>
<p>Princess Leia, Storm Troopers and Darth Vader invades the New York City subway car reenacting a scene from Star Wars. Since the white sliding doors were very similar to the doors from the rebel ship, they utilized multiple stations to have different characters enter into the scene. Very well done.</p>
<p>The buildup was great. By the time Darth Vader enters in the third station, every erupted in laughter. Especially as Darth Vader first time hit his head on the roof due to the height of his helmet.</p>

<h3>Frozen Grand Central by Improv Everywhere</h3>
<p>Imagine walking through one of the busiest train stations in New York then suddenly you realize everyone around you is frozen still! Sounds eerie? This is exactly what happened in Grand Central New York when 207 &#8220;agents&#8221; or participants all froze at exactly 2:30PM in all sorts of different poses and scenes.</p>
<p>Strangers started to talk to each other trying to figure out what is going on. Others took pictures with the frozen agents.</p>

<h3>Food Court Musical by Improv Everywhere</h3>
<p>16 Agents create a spontaneous musical in a food court in a Los Angeles mall. The cameras were hidden throughout the scene and their voices were amplified throughout the food court via wireless microphones and the mall&#8217;s announcement system.</p>
<p>This mission was spawned by requests from fans that thought it was so random that people just break out in song in musicals. So Improve Everywhere finally took up the call.</p>
<p>The best is the slow buildup where different people from the audience would join in the musical and break into song. Audience reaction was priceless especially during a couple &#8220;twists&#8221;&#8230;</p>
<p>The song was an original written by Scott Brown and Anthony King. Very well done. The choreography was done by Agent Tallaksen.</p>

<h3>Best Game Ever by Improv Everywhere</h3>
<p>Numerous Agents come to a random little league game and make it into a full major league baseball experience. The teams, coaches and parents have no idea what is going on. A huge crowd shows up, they setup a jumbotron, NBC Sports comes to announce the game over the PA system, and a blimp flies overhead capping this incredible experience for the children. The announcers knew the kid&#8217;s names, nicknames and the crowd was fired up throughout. Pretty sweet experience for the kids.</p>
<p>Apologies for the thumbnails of the crazy fans. Why they chose that thumbnail I don&#8217;t know, but the video itself is very clean. It was a fun experience for the kids involved.</p>

<p>Couple weeks ago, Google came out with a video that demonstrates the speed of it&#8217;s latest Chrome web browser. Why is it posted here on Clean Cut Media? Because we like to highlight videos that are well-made or are just simply clever. <p>In case anyone is interested. Google Chrome uses a JavaScript engines called V8 that is extremely fast. This new beta is reported to be about 35% faster than the previous. The previous in my experience is easily the faster browser out there, followed by Safari, then Firefox. I don&#8217;t even bother with Internet Explorer &#8211; it&#8217;s unbelievably slow.</p>

<h3>Short Videos &amp; Short Films</h3>
<p>All the recent posts have been about heavy topics, so here is a breather both for the artists out there as well as the casual video viewer. I&#8217;ve put together links to a few well made (and of course Clean Cut) short videos &amp; short films. I&#8217;ve only included ones you may have not seen. So no pixar shorts!</p>
<p>Short videos are very difficult to create because the producer needs to sum up a quick story within a very short time frame usually around 1:30-2 minutes. Short films can range anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. To develop a story, create the right mood and have character development in such a short period takes much planning and creativity. Below are some of the excellent short films &amp; videos I&#8217;ve ran across in the past.<br />

<h3>Distraxion &#8211; Short Video</h3>
<p>Check out this awesome animation short video called Distraxion. Very clever and well made. All the story is developed in 1 minute and 48 seconds. Very entertaining.</p>

<h3>Signs &#8211; Short Film</h3>
<p>2009 Cannes Lions Winner. I really enjoyed this short film. The main characters don&#8217;t say a single word throughout the film. I love how it really highlights the monotony of life. I had wanted to make a film similar to this (but more serious, without the love twist). This film is 12 minutes and 12 seconds. Despite a lack of words, the music and shots are done well to create a sense of buildup. The story develops well throughout. (One character does make an inappropriate joke though.)</p>

<h3>Kiwi &#8211; Short Video</h3>
<p>A very touching little short. Very entertaining, though the ending makes you really wonder about this particular Kiwi&#8217;s life and end.</p>

<p>I have mixed feelings about this video. On one hand, it is not a very well made video. Nothing fancy, very simple. Not much of a deep development. However it&#8217;s a clear and simple depiction into, well you&#8217;ll see.</p>

<p>Arbor Networks recently released a large scale study on internet usage utilizing the data from 110 geographically diverse Internet service providers and tens of millions of subscribers. One of the more fascinating points of this study is when internet usage peaks for US internet users.</p>
<p>There was once a point where Internet usage peaked at 8AM in the morning when most US visitors get into work. However this new study showed that Internet usage now peaks at 11PM Eastern time and stays high until 3AM in the morning. This is unique to the United States as Europe was found to peak around 7PM then drop sharply for the rest of the night. Other than a slight dip during dinner hours, US users continue to use the Internet at a high rate during the late hours of the day.</p>

<h3>North American Website Usage</h3>
<p>This graph on the right displays the traffic cycle of North American internet users. The blue line marks internet usage through the day showing the most usage in the late afternoon, a slight drip during dinner and a significant spike at 11PM in the evening. The yellow segment is cable / dsl traffic which signifies consumer usage and attempts to exclude business traffic. The graph clearly shows that consumers play a huge role in the late night peak.</p>
<h3>What are They Doing Online so Late!</h3>

<ul>
<li><strong>Online Gaming</strong> &#8211; Grows 60% after 2PM. Spikes between 8PM-11PM.</li>
<li><strong>Team Gaming</strong> &#8211; The social nature of gaming contributes to the sudden spikes and drops as seen in the World of Worldcraft usage. A team or a &#8220;guild&#8221; of players will schedule a time to play together thus causing massive spikes and drops in the usage data.</li>
<li><strong>Online Video Watching</strong> &#8211; Peaks at Midnight.</li>
<li><strong>Instant Messaging</strong> &#8211; IM usage is constant throughout the day while reaching 80% of peak at 10AM and maintaining that rate until midnight.</li>
</ul>
<p>The study showed that the rise in usage was not necessarily due to higher number of users surfing the web. In fact Arbor&#8217;s analysis suggested that web surfing was constant throughout the day. The data revealed that video watching and online gaming contributed greatly to the late night peak. Though instant messaging and video watching is done throughout the day, video watching starts to rise in the evenings while online gaming jumps as soon as work is over. It skyrockets right after dinner time, peaks around 11PM and carries for the next few hours. We do have to consider the three hour difference between the east and west coasts to account for usage from 12PM to 3AM.</p>

<p>For those of you may not know of &#8220;United Breaks Guitars&#8221;, an aspiring musician named Dave Carroll wrote and produced a music video after his Taylor 714 CE (A $3000+ guitar) was broken by United Airline&#8217;s Baggage crew and United refused to replace his instrument.</p>
<p>This video immediately went viral, now with over 5 million views. It was a hit because many were able to identify with his travel woes.</p>
<p>As Dave Carroll promised this to be a three part song series, everyone has been waiting in anticipation for his second song. See it below.</p>

This is a TSA Screening Policy. Although it is at the airlines discretion whether to allow additional carry-on items on their aircraft. The Security officers will x-ray or physically screen your instrument.</p>
<p>However it is recommended you call the airline ahead of time as a precaution. Also be sure to check the size of your instrument and verify with the airline whether it is within the limits to be considered a carry-on. It is also wise to print out the airline&#8217;s policies in case the baggage handlers and security officers are not familiar with the airline policy with instruments.</p>
